1. History:

During the time of the Pioneers, the land that Cornelius would call home was a place known as Virgin Springs. The Catawba River and the Charleston Highway were the main modes of transportation between the mountains of NC and Charleston, SC. Virgin Springs was known for being a great place to stop for rest just north of Charlottetown.

These pioneers were greeted with both welcoming Catawba Indians, and the hostile Cherokee. Established in 1905, Cornelius was the second youngest incorporated town in Mecklenburg county.  In 1963 the landscape of Cornelius changed drastically when Duke Power dammed the Catawba river and created Lake Norman. The town has been enjoying the “Lake Life” ever since.

Today Cornelius is a thriving town with a diverse variety of housing options, recreational opportunities and some of the most breathtaking scenery + real estate in all of the Carolina’s.
