1. History:
Incorporated in 1873, Huntersville NC was the first town north of Charlotte NC to be recognized. Originally named Craighead, the town was renamed to Huntersville in honor of major landowner and cotton farmer, Robert Boston Hunter. Fertile land and a rail line promoted quick growth in Huntersville NC and the town quickly grew to what it is today, one of the best places to live in the Carolinas.

Huntersville NC is nestled on the southern tip of Lake Norman, just 14 miles north of Charlotte. I-77 runs through the middle of Huntersville NC, giving residents great access to the greater Charlotte area.
Depending on where you live in Huntersville (and traffic) you can get to the Charlotte city center in about 20 minutes. You can also get to the Charlotte International Airport in about 20-30 minutes.

Latta Nature Preserve- Latta Nature Preserve offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation. Latta Nature Preserve has 16 miles of trails offering hikers, nature enthusiasts, and horseback riders the opportunity to explore a variety of terrain while enjoying scenic views of the lake, forests, and streams. It is the only Mecklenburg County property open to horseback riding.
Discovery Place Kids – Huntersville offers a kid’s museum with interactive exhibits for the whole family! If it’s a rainy day this is a great place to visit with so many activities and educational sections that offer learning opportunities while also having a lot of fun so it doesn’t feel like learning. If you think you will go more than once it’s definitely worth grabbing a membership! They are open late on Tuesday nights!
Carolina Renaissance Festival– A 25 acre renaissance themed amusement park is among the largest Renaissance fairs in America. The festival is set in a fictional storybook village of “Fairhaven.” With 375 acres of autumn woodlands, this open air artisan marketplace is complete with 16th century European architecture. The Carolina Renaissance Festival is truly one of the best things to do in Huntersville! In its fall season, it will see over 195,000 people to the festival.
Lake Norman- One of the biggest draws to Huntersville is it’s access to Lake Norman. Whether its hanging out on the beach, boating, hiking, camping, skiiing or fishing, you will find something perfect for the whole family!
