Overlook led the way for explosive growth in northwest Mecklenburg County, NC. It was developed by Crescent Resources as a way to demonstrate that neighborhood development can successfully co-exist with the valuable natural environment of Mountain Island Lake. One third of Overlook’s homes are directly on the lake, one third have deeded community boat slips and one third have use of the community’s boat storage lot. Overlook is truly a lake community.

Community Highlights

Overlook residents enjoy the many amenities that make their community so special. In addition, the neighborhood features beautiful landscapes, and a year round social calendar of events.
The clubhouse overlooks the pool and entails a central entertaining space with ensuite half kitchen, stereo system, large flat screen TV and his & her restrooms, including showers.
Overlook features two tennis courts, a basketball court, soccer field and sand volleyball court. The tennis and basketball courts are accessed using a key FOB.
Generally speaking, the Pool opens up on or around Memorial Day and closes on or around Labor Day.
The community features two parks, one on Andrew James Dr with a playground and soccer field, and the other on Overlook Mountain Dr with a playground and the community gazebo.
Overlook features a private boat launch for resident use into Mountain Island Lake. Resident kayak storage is available via a lottery at the launch. Overlook also maintains a large boat storage lot for residents.
The Nature trails in Overlook are like secret passageways that connect our streets together. Each trail is beautifully landscaped and has ground level path lighting for safety and security.

Entertainment in Mountain Island Lake

Latta Nature Preserve – Latta Place, also known as Latta House, is a historic house located in Huntersville, North Carolina near Mountain Island Lake. Built in about 1800 in a Federal style, the plantation also contains some elements of Georgian design, including the house’s main staircase.

The Raptor Center – Carolina Raptor Center is located on 57 acres inside Latta Plantation Preserve. The approximately 3/4 mile, self-guided Raptor Trail features over 20 species of birds which guests can photograph and learn more about. Special events and gatherings are held here throughout the year.

Mountain Island Park - Recently, the City of Mount Holly extended the trail south following the Catawba River. The trailhead, parking, playground and viewing area are next to Mountain Island Lake Dam, a hydroelectric dam owned by Duke Power. There are several fishing areas including a handicap fishing site perfect for catfish and bass fishing.

Enjoy the Lake – The public has plenty of access to Mountain Island Lake’s shoreline. The boat launch areas are regularly used by small boat owners such as fishermen and nature fans. The many coves along the irregular shoreline are a delight to explore from kayak or canoe.
