1. History
Pineville, incorporated in 1873, was named for the large and abundant pines that cast their shadows over the community. At that time it was known as a mule trading center, being located at the intersection of 2 major Native American trading routes.
Pineville NC later became a stagecoach stop, being a frequent stop for the Charlotte NC and Columbia SC railroads. The railroad was Pineville’s first step to the “modern” world. It was around this time that the name was officially changed to Pineville NC. Pineville has continued to steadily grow until the recent decades where Pineville has absolutely BOOMED with growth and demand.
Fun fact: Pineville NC is the birthplace of the 11th president, James K. Polk. If you would like a taste of history, you can go visit a re-creation of his home, at the President James K. Polk State Historic Site.

Pineville NC is nestled just outside Charlotte NC city limits, on the southern most tip of Mecklenburg county. Pineville NC is directly off I-485, giving you the best of both worlds. A perfect blend of small town living and big city life.

For those shop-a-holics, Carolina Place Mall is located right here in Pineville NC. Carolina Place Mall is a 1.2 million sqft shopping mall. There are over 120 stores including Dicks, Belk, Barns & Nobel, and various restaurants.
Are you looking for fresh produce? Visit the Pineville Farmers Market which is located downtown on Dover Street. Local farmers come together every Saturday from, May to September between 8am-12pm, to offer some of the best produce around!
Carowinds is very close! Carowinds theme park, which straddles the border between North and South Carolina, has something for the whole family. They have some incredible roller coasters, such as the Intimidator and Afterburn. There is also a waterpark, a children’s area with different fun activities, and a variety of food and drink options.

4. Things to do in Pineville
Downtown Belmont is a classic downtown scene complete with dining, retail, bars and plenty of entertainment. Here’s a list of our favorites!
Lake Park–Lake Park is a scenic and beautiful aspect for the Town of Pineville. There are countless things to do in the park like fishing, playgrounds, swinging, and walking. Lake Park is an ideal location for picnics, family reunions, birthdays, and special events.
Pintville Craft beer – Pintville Craft Beer is a bar and bottle shop with over 20 local craft beers on tap, which can be enjoyed with the various rotating food trucks out front. You can look at what beers they have each day at untappd.com. Pintville is very close to Kit’s Trackside Crafts, another tap room and bottle shop, where you can find 24 local and regional beers on tap, a new cask offering every week, and over 350 bottles of wine in house.
Waldhorn Restaurant – Waldhorn Restaurant was opened in 1999 by husband and wife Thomas and Gitta Maier, both professional chefs who wanted to pay tribute to their German roots. They serve traditional German cuisine and a wide selection of beer. You can even become a member of their Beer Club!
Pineville Ice House – At Pineville Ice House, you can play hockey, attend skating school, or take advantage of their public skating hours. Public skate is $10 per person, and includes rental skates. Take note, though, that music played on Saturdays and Sundays may be more family appropriate than the music played during Friday night free skate, which is geared more towards teens and adults.
Go Trampolining at Sky High – Sky High in Pineville NC has a variety of activities for everyone. The main trampoline court is nearly the size of a football field, and there is also a high ropes course and dodgeball arena, in addition to a toddler area and basketball court. Sky High also has a lounge area and snack bar when you’re ready to take a break from the action.
The Garrison– Nestled in a charming historic downtown Pineville building that dates back to the 1890s, The Garrison will offer indoor and outdoor seating, a full service classic cocktail bar, upstairs dining, and modern American cuisine. Think “the best burger in town”, 24-hour brined chicken wings, a ribeye steak sandwich, chops, fresh local seafood, and more.
